Day 17/18

July 16, 2018

We were preasantly suprised last week by some members of the US Embassy! The students got to pitch their ideas to two people in the economic sector, and get advice on how to move forward/other oppurtuniites the embassy is working on relating to their fields of interest.

Last Friday was also our first Hackathon! A lot of productive work went on considering we all stayed at Fab Lab until 10pm. All teams had gotten through several pages in designing their mock-ups, and they had some sort of webpage to display. A couple of teams even figured out how to start interacting the ESP32 and arduino along with their apps! Team Alpha took the prize for communication with hardware and piece of code produced, while Team Fikia had the best design mock ups. Our world class foosball tournament is coming along swimmingly as well. We're finding our groove here at GSL! Elimination round on the come up...

This Monday, we pushed on as well. All the teams have home pages now and mock ups have becomed more detailed and starting to include actual information that will go on the final pages of the apps.

Entrepeneurship covered the basics of finance today: balance sheets, income statements, cashflow statements, and statements of shareholders' equity! Wataru distinguished key differences between debt and equity, and posed scenarios for the teams detailing examples for the team of good cash flow statements, etc.

Lastly, we're finalizing all the details for our Demo Day this week! Check back here for updates :)

Day 14

July 10, 2018

The technical team introduced UI/UX today. Kosi talked about the importance of the user always being right, no matter what. Important concepts from User Interfaces are that the features have to cater to the logic flow of the app. Animation should be used thoughtfully, scrolling bars need to have an inherent purpose, and information to be inputted needs to be intuitive. Check out the slides from today for more cardinal UI rules. Students are designing mock ups of three pages of their apps tomorrow!

The Entrpreneurial team introduced Step 12 and Step 13 today, Decision Making Unit and Decision Making Process, respectively. The DMU are the multiple people involved in buying your product, and the best way to find your DMU is through more primary market research. Decision Making Process is all about mapping out the steps by which a customer decides to purchase your product.

Stay tuned for more on prototyping, business models, and basketball!
