MAATHA

Program: Sri Lanka Summer 2011

Pitch

Leadership: We are five motivated and talented student entrepreneurs from the University of Moratuwa, Faculty of Information Technology. We are driven to provide innovative mobile application solutions to help alleviate existing problems in society.

Description

Vision: MAATHA is an SMS based solution aimed at improving prenatal and neonatal health. Currently, the infant mortality rate in Sri Lanka is approximately 10 deaths per 1,000 live births. With over 1,200 births a day in Sri Lanka, we hope to help lower this rate by providing each mother with free health tips, medical schedules and communicative assistance for her and her child.

Product: In the initial stage of the product, each mother can register for MAATHA via a straightforward SMS service. Upon registration, the user will receive weekly health tip alerts as well as doctor appointment and vaccination alerts. The timing of these alerts will be based on the stage of the woman’s pregnancy as well as a doctor recommended schedule. Post childbirth, the system will focus on neonatal health, providing alerts based on the age of the child. We plan on extending this service to a J2ME application as well as a web application, allowing users to interact with the MAATHA system. Registration of doctors and midwives will be managed by a central administration
