Description

UCT aspires to become a premier academic meeting point between South Africa, the rest of Africa and the world. Taking advantage of expanding global networks and our distinct vantage point in Africa, we are committed, through innovative research and scholarship, to grapple with the key issues of our natural and social worlds. We aim to produce graduates whose qualifications are internationally recognised and locally applicable, underpinned by values of engaged citizenship and social justice. UCT will promote diversity and transformation within our institution and beyond, including growing the next generation of academics.
UCT employs over 5 000 staff members across the six faculties and the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHED). There are also several hundred clinical joint staff in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
In 2012 UCT was home to 32 A-rated researchers. A National Research Foundation (NRF) A-rating is given to researchers who are unequivocally recognized by their peers as leading international scholars in their field for the high quality and impact of their recent research outputs.
UCT currently also has five P-rated researchers. P-ratings are awarded by the National Research Foundation to promising young scholars, usually under the age of 35, who have demonstrated exceptional potential to become future leaders in their fields.
