Dextina is a Brooklyn native with Caribbean Roots. Her mother emigrated from Guyana when she was young and raised Dextina to believe that there she has a duty to create a better future. During undergrad Dextina Studied Mechanical Engineering at MIT and graduated in 2015. She packed up and moved her life to Detroit as a Venture For America fellow with the hopes of creating jobs through entrepreneurship. Her third and final job in her two years in Detroit was with Shinola and Branding and Manufacturing company known for its stylish and American designed watches, bikes, and leather goods. Dextina worked as an engineer on the Audio team where they created turntables, speakers, and headphones. After a year and a half with Shinola, she decided to return to MIT to Pursue a Master’s degree with the Integrated Design and Management. She hopes to use her skills to build solutions to those who need them most, and use Entrepreneurship and technology to empower a diverse, solution oriented future.
